Jun. 4th, 2007 05:05 pm "you're smarter than I thought you'd be..."

greeeat, that's what the guy i work with told me today...so more or less, at work i sit around and read...seriously...i read anything and everything ranging from news to nestle's top competitors to management strategies on the nestle website for like an hour because i had nothing else to do and mike didn't want to spend any time helping me (as seems to be the case more commonly than not...)...and i feel like such a pest bugging people becasue they have to spend so long explaining things to me that's it's like doubly unproductive because no one is getting anything done...then when i finally got an assignment to make some graphs, i did it, sent it out and that was that...not a big deal...but i think he thought it was going to take me hours or something becasue when i came back like 45 mins later, i got a, "you're done??" but whatever....at least the afternoon wasn't as boring...since the other guys in IP are a little more understanding they gave me stuff to do...i timed a guy weighing out stuff, met some carton vendors, had a meeting w/the HR manager who gave me some stuff to read, then proceeded to get locked out of the office where my computer was...so i read the HR papers, then more or less just watched mike putz around on this spreadsheet, honestly, i think taking the longest time i have ever seen anyone take to do what he wanted to do....then i got to sit through a kind of boring meeting...and after that, we decided to go home and re-covene tomorrow...later, at like 8 or 9, which is nice so i can sleep in a little!

anyway...lets see...about my bday...totally nothing exciting...i honestly think it is the LEAST exciting bday i have ever had, how sad is that?? but it was nice that a lot of people called me and i got a couple of cards and my mom sent me a bouquet of cookies :)
but more or less...i worked until lke 7 am the thursday before/friday of my bday, and the night of, i worked from like 11-3 am, oh yay....(it was lucky, though, that mike didn't really want to work, so more or less, i did like an hour's worth of work, stood around watching people clean and having the occasional random conversation, ate food, and then left...oh yeah, forgot to mention that we watched osme videos on you-tube and i saw pictures of his pets...see how much work i get done????)

saturday i watched a lot of movies....thats about it...sunday i decided to be a little adventurous and take a mountain drive (as not adventurous as that sounds, those mtn roads are kind of scary sometimes...)...but really, i went into provo canyon and took the "alpine loop" up into the mtns, which was pretty neat...i ended up taking like an hour long hike too...there was a stopping point about at the top of the road and i was just going to walk a little while to try and get a better view, but that little while just kept getting longer and longer...but it was nice out anyway, so it's all good...so yeah...spent like 3 hours driving around up in the mtns sand then in the 2 canyons on each side...i'm in the process of uploading some pics onto photobucket, totally check them out!!

aside from that...nada interesante...i am learning how to be bored to tears half of my waking time....seriously...i need to find some hobbies or something to occupy my time....i am bored at work...i come home, and now that i think i'm more or less over mono, i'm not so tired that i go straight to bed, i don't know what to do with myself...i can cook, but only to a certain extent becasue i can't eat an infinite amount of food...watching tv is only fun for sooo long (any trashy tv show suggestions for the summer??), and if i'm a little tired, reading puts me to sleep so that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it?? but yeah....and living by myself is very lonely most of the time, so you should totally call me!! and my internet only works sometimes, which is unfortunate, but yeah...anyway, i think i'm going to get some din din, ciao for now amigas y amigos!!

May. 17th, 2007 07:15 pm w-w-w-work

recap of last 2 work day:
yesterday...death...sooo tired...
today...not too bad

yesterday was really really long.....and by the end of the day i had all of these meetings nad i was soooo tired that i could barely pay attention and then at the end i had a meeting with my boss who was asking me what all of these other people talked ot me about and i could hardly remember details...but my meeting with him was really interesting and we talked about a lot of cool stuff, i got to fold a shirt, and watch a fun video and stuff...and talked about my project, which sounds interesting enough...hopefully will be!
when i got home i was sooooo tired that i literally ate some dinner, showered, and went to bed..i was asleep before 8, no joke...i know it's super pathetic, but at least i got like almost 9 hours of sleep!!!!

today...nothing super exciting...i had floor time and the first two hours i was with the casing people, talking to this really nice girl who was running hte caser machine, got to see htat, it was actually kind of interesting, took breakfast break with the casing ladies...then after 2 hours of that, went to the palletizer...more or less, the palletizer takes the cases, puts them into a stack, you have to put bar code stickers on, then it wraps in in saran wrap and goes on to the warehouse...i think i could have seen all of this in like 30-45mins, but no...i was there for 2 hours! so for at least an hour i spent just standing around watching cases come in and learning about bonnie (the palletizer woman) and her whole extended family...craziness, i tell you...then i had a few more meetings with people, had lunch...ok so for lunch we had "hawaiian haystacks" - possibly a utah/mormon thing...so they are first like the chow mein noodles, then rice, then some kind of sauce with chicken and maybe other meat in it, i'm not sure...then you can put on it what you want, i got proper instruction by the other IP guys on how to do it...put pineapple, coconut, almonds, and even celery (i thought the celery was a little too weird)...so this sounds like the most disgusting thing ever, and trust me, it looked like it! but i tried it anyway, and it wasn't too bad...a little out there, but not too bad...just wanted to comment on the lunch choice....and also, so i really thought that they were kidding, but the IP guys were saying something that was a joke between them and last years intern was the saying "oh my heck"...and i didn't really think anyone said it, but now i've heard at least 2 people say it...haha, i really want to laugh every time, but i can't because they aren't kidding....craziness, i tell you...haha and both of the nurses today were ready to set me up with a husband....one of them was like, oh you can find plenty of people who want to marry you here...just depends if yo uwant to marry them! but they were funny...they offered to be my mother if i ever needed anything...one thing that i have found at least, is that everyone has been super nice so far, which is good....

anyway, also didn't have a meeting because the person was out of hte office, so i bonded with ericka, the girl who does a lot of the training, and she was telling me stuff that i had to do and some thing that is this weekend that i should go to with her, so maybe i will...could be interesting...and she was talking about how they go to all of the dance clubs and stuff like that and how i could just haaave to go, so i might not sit around allll of the time ;)
now i'm going to watch some tv and go to bed...tomorrow should be good because i don't have to be in until 7 (wooooo that's late! means i can sleep in until 5:45!!) so a little extra sleep :) anyawy, i have written too much....i think i have a problem with writing/talking too much....maybe it's because i don't have anyone else to tell about my day or talk to about stuff so if i talk to anyone i just ramble on and on and on and don't let them get a word in...i blame it on my isolation...i did it to poor matt today and felt kindof bad and then realized that i have probably done it to like everyone i have talked to...oops...guess i need to meet some random people around her eto talk to...anyway, i'm done, i swear...ciao

May. 15th, 2007 07:17 pm oh work.....

so yeah...about work....so the first day was soooo long and i didn't think i was going to make it through, but i did...so i had to be there by 6 and I just made it in time because it took longer than I thought to actually get to Springville (it's about 20 mins the way i have been going...but apparently there is a faster way, so i'm going to have to look into that) and then I had to get forms filled out and move my car and everything...I was in training with 4 other direct hires to Nestle, 2 older mexican guys, 1 hick-ish guy who was about 18 and another guy in his late 20's who also spoke spanish b/c he went on his (mormon) mission in chile so him and the mexicans would talk in spanish and i totally understood everything they said, even though i don't know if they believed me when i said i spoke spanish....but yeah...we got trained on a bunch of stuff, most of it was pretty much common sense, like take responsibility for your own safety, don't put your hands in moving machinery, etc....they made a huge deal aobut that last one because like a week ago some girl got her thumb amputated in a machine b/c she put her hand in while it was moving...so yeah...we even got a breakfast break at like 9ish to get coffee, juice, fruit, cereal or a snack from the cafeteria...then more and more training...and then we had even more training, lunch, which we get for free from the cafeteria, and its either something they make, and then stouffers and lean cuisine stuff, and then fruit, some kind of dessert thing, coffee, juice, hot chocolate, etc...but not bad considering that you don't have to pay for it or anything...and i won't have to worry about making a lunch...i mean, you can if you want to and leave it in the fridge, but unless i get reeeally sick of the food i doubt i'll do it...yeah....the day was finally over when I had to go to IP when I was supposed to have a meeting with some guy named Dan Hill, but he wasn't in becasue his kid was sick or something and no one got the message to give to me, so I met some of the other IP guys and then left at a little after 3...I was soooo tired and just wanted to get home, so i came home...and changed, but I had to go to target to exchange a bowl set because it came without one of the lids and i just wanted to go and get it over with...i was soooo tired and barely made it through, but then i had to go and look for steel toed shoes, which i didn't find, even though i walked all through the mall, but i did get coldstone, which is always a nice consellation prize :)

sooo 2nd day at work:
got there nice and early, security still didn't know what to do with me b/c for some reason i don't have an ID number so i don't have an official badge yet...got to Ericka, the training girl, who i have now bonded with, i tell you...and i more or less just sat around for like an hour, filled out some papers for her so she didn't hav eto do them, just because i had nothing to do...talked to some random people that happened to be coming in the room...then sat through some of the new spherion employees training (they are temps hired through a temp agency, and can eventually become nestle employees) and then got a personal guided tour by some other training guy, who showed me all around the main production floor, then we had a breakfast break with bagels and coffee :)! and then we went back and saw the ovens, and meat rooms, and warehouses and stuff....then i helped set up some tables, took a hearing test (apparently i have good hearing...), then had lunch...ended up sitting with some woman who i met yesterday and was nice, so i sat for eeeever and talked to a ton of people, and then today i got introduced to sooo many people, i honestly think i told like 50 people that i was from MI and went to MSU, and was the from upper peninsula...i even looked at a map w/a guy from my IP group and we talked about the grand hotel :)
but aside from that, nothing much exciting...we did have a presentation about micro stuff, and i was proud that i knew more or less everything that he told us, and i thought it was really funny when he started using some large scientific words and a lot of people got really worried, especially when he said something about e.coli O157:H7...there were some people that were like "ahhh do we have to know that!?!" hahaha, oh school....anyway, i got to leave a little early before 3, when i really could have left like an hour an a half before if we had known my meeting was cancelled, but we didn't....so right after, i went to the mall that's like 2 miles from the plant to look for steel-toed shoes, didn't find any, but did get my free lotion from bath and body works, and also some soap, which i needed...but i was soo excited about this new straweberry candle that i bought too, until i realized that i don't have any matches...oh well...but i still had to get the stupid shoes...so my last resort was Wal-Mart, which is where Ericka told me to go, so i figured that since i couldn't find anything better i would haaave to go there, i was not happy, to say the least...but i went, found some stupid shoes, also saw a guy there who is starting on GP that was in the training group today, was glad to know that someone else was also having a hard time getting stupid boots...and i was determined NOT to have boots, like high-top boots, but they were the only ones that fit and it is sooo ridiculous, i have these horrendous steel toed boots now...i am not happy about them, and am planning on putting them in my locker and only wearing them as little as possible....so yeah...anyway, then i made some dinner, pasta sauce with extra veggies and some corn and stuff...chilled, showered, and now is time for tv...i am planning on actually going to bed early (ie like 9-9:30ish) so i can get a few hrs of sleep b/c i have to get up at 4:45 :( i have to leave by 5:30 to get to work on time...yippie skippy ( as ellen would say...) anyway, off to tv...

May. 12th, 2007 09:48 pm UTAH!!

so yeah, haven't updated in soooo long, but as per request by meggy, I decided that I can document my mormon adventure in lj...
sooo lets start last week, when I got home from school...originially it wasn't supposed to be so bad, i was going to have a few days to unpack, do laundry, and repack again, but i had a horrible sore throat that didn't get better...to make a long story short, tuesday i found out i had BOTH mono and strep...could things get any better??? NOT...so I layed around, finally managed to pack and was still on my way Friday afternoon to Utah....so Friday, my flights were more or less ok, except for a small moment of panic waiting on my flight from minneapolis to salt lake city and they said that it was cancelled for some reason or other, but then uncancelled it, so everything was ok...so i finally made to to slc a little late, but it wasn't too bad, only like 7:30ish, then went to go and get my rental car...so that took foreeeever i'm not really sure why, but FINALLY i got a car, and then i was trying to lug my bags to the wrong place and i had to ask this security guy where to go and turns out i went the wrong way out of hte rental car place...so back into the rental car place and then into the parking lot...and i seriously think that my car was the farthest one in the lot and i was carrying my bags sooo far and they were sooo heavy and it was horrrrrible and i thought i would never make it to my car...so i finally got there and was sooo hot and soo tired, and now had to find my way to provo...but it wasn't really that hard to get to provo, just followed the interstate for 50ish miles...but on the way ended up talking to the grandma of the guy who i'm subletting from and also the mom of my mom's friend/my sisters friends gma...which was pretty fun...then when i finally got to provo, it was dark and after i got off the interstate i turned one way and thought it was wrong and turned around, then i ended up driving all around on the wrong side of the interstate and when i finally got to the right side, it wasn't as bad, and i only drove a little more found my apartment complex, but didn't think it was the right one, so i drove a little more, and then decided that it was the right place that i was at before, and right as i pulled in, and "grandma" pulled up right next to me - perfect timing...then she showed me in and everything and i got some stuff settled...then went to bed on the nice queen bed that's super comfy, but i didn't have any sheets so i slept with just my pillow on top of the mattress...then i got cold so i used a zip-up hoodie as a blanket and spent most of hte night curled up in a little ball on just a mattress underneath a sweatshirt...sounds pathetic, i know...and all day today i've been soooo sore because of it....

now today, i slept in, got up at 9:30ish, showered and got ready and then drove over to find the Nestle plant so I would know how to get there on monday...i did find it eventually, after driving past and not only knowing exactly how to get there...but i found it...then i had seen an ikea 20ish miles away when i was driving in yesterday, so i decided that i would try and find it...so i drove on up the interstate, i did eventually find it, but it isn't even open AHHH doesn't open for another week and a half...but i'm totally going there once it's open :)
but on my way back i had also seen a target, about half way between ikea and provo so i stopped there and got a bunch of stuff that i needed, like sheets, towels, misc stuff...you know...then ate at a little cafe that was by target, had a really good sandwich w/chicken and spinach artichoke dip and cheese and was warmed up...then got some placemats from pier 1 and a pair of cute shoes from the foot wear warehouse, kind of an impulse buy, but whatever...
then made my way back to provo, found where my apartment is, but kept on driving until i found a grocery store...i was getting a little scared that i'd never find one, but then i saw albertson's and got really excited and swerved through a few lanes of traffic to get there and then wandered around for soo long there getting groceries and stuff, and then i finally made it back to my place...it took me like 5 trips to get all of my stuff in, it was crazy!!
then i started to unpack my groceries and everything...i then started to wash my new sheets when i realized that i hadn't bought any dryer sheets, figuring that i wouldn't have to do laundry right away anyway...so then i had to get some dryer sheets...turns out that maceys is a grocery store, so i went in, found some dryer sheets, also found some orangina, always good (hooray carly!) and had an interesting conversation with the checker guy who said that he knew someone who went to MSU...weeeird...
anyway, nothing exciting after that...unpakced everything, put stuff away, made some couscous salad for dinner, did a bunch of laundry, and now am watching "shall we dance" which i got from target today...
don't know what i'm going to do tomorrow...maybe just take a drive or something...it's soooo pretty here, everywhere you look you can see mountains, seriosly, GORGEOUS!! but anyway, now to finish my movie and stuff....ciao for now...
oh p.s. phone calls are appreciated, i will probably be bored if i'm not at work......:) :) :)

Mar. 21st, 2007 03:07 pm craziness abounds

so i haven't written anything here in foreverrrrr and i decided that since I don't really want to study at this point and I have to put my shoes back on to get coffee and I am feeling lazy, I might put a short entry here....soooo my life as of late: busy...but besides that...pretty good...yesterday I officially accepted my offer to work for nestle for the summer and sent in my letter today...so as long as i pass my drug test and background check, i'm good to go!! now all i have to worry about is finishing our stupid senior design project that is taking away a small part of my soul right now....but actually, we are doing pretty good and our project turned out a lot better than I ever would have thought that it could, so that's good....oooo spring break! it was aweeeesome and soo warm and tropical....i wish i was back there now, since the weather has gotten horrible!! then going home last weekend was nice too...got a chance to relax and still pretend that i was on vacation...put my skates on for the first time too, which was definetly interesting...anyway...i really should get some coffee and start studying/writing my criminology paper, both of which are GOING to happen before tomorrow, that's final. anyway, it's surprising that i didn't write more, usually when i mean to write something short i still write a lot but today was different i guess....back to work!!

Jan. 30th, 2007 10:20 pm sooo unmotivated

so i'm at the law library right now, should be studying for my exam on thursday, but noooo i've gone add and can't do anything...more like i'm angry at my stupid computer model and why it won't work....one of them works and it's the scaled-down version i had been working on which is AWESOME because nothing was reallyworking until today, but now I've been trying to make some more realistic versions of the system and i can't get it to work, either the simulation won't finish or it takes super-small time steps for some reason, so after 20 minutes of working it has only simulated 0.1 seconds or something ridiculous like that....and i don't know why that happens either, i set it to be fine, but who knows...but at least i've had some progress....still soo unmotivated ot study, though....my studying habits have gone down the drain all starting in spain and then followed by my ankle surgery/being lazy for 2 months-1 week last semester....after i realized that i could not try all that hard and still do ok i kind of stopped trying....not good now that i should be doing more work and i have plenty of time so there are no excuses as to why i am not ahead in work...only being lazy....ahhhh....but i htink i'm going to leave anyway because i'm hungry so there goes my studying....whatever....
